The Guildford & District Golfing Alliance was established in 1921 with the first Championship trophy being donated by Viscount Northcliffe – The Alliance over the years has played at all of the great Surrey/North Hampshire heathland Golf Courses – like Sunningdale, Hindhead, St Georges Hill, Liphook, Blackmoor, North Hants, Woking, Worplesdon, West Hill, Walton Heath,The Berkshire, New Zealand and Swinley Forest to name a few. Over the years there have been 6 Open winners that have played in the Alliance – Max Faulkner, Henry Cotton, Bobby Locke, Alf Perry, Alf Padgham and Richard Burton - as well as former Ryder Cup players like George Duncan (who defeated Walter Hagen 10 x 8 in 1929 Ryder Cup at Moortown), George Will, Neil Coles, Ken Bousfield, Peter Alliss, Arthur Lacey, Alf Perry and many more leading PGA professional Golfers have all played in the Guildford & District Golfing Alliance as well as many very talented Amateur Golfers.
